Kerry Murphy - Junior Lawyer
I am a Junior Lawyer in the corporate team. I completed both my undergraduate degree in law and my Master's degree in International Business Law at Queen's University Belfast. After completing my training contract at a commercial law firm in Belfast, I joined the corporate team in September 2021.
During my training contract I mainly worked in the areas of property and banking law, I therefore found the corporate law training I received during my induction very helpful. This along with the help and guidance that I have been given from other members of the team since joining has been extremely valuable; it is always good to know that there is someone you can reach out to if you have any questions. Having a friendly and supportive environment at work is really important and made me feel at ease when I first joined.
Since joining the team I have worked on a wide variety of multi-jurisdictional matters. This has involved completing contractual due diligence, preparing legal step lists, drafting transaction documents, and co-ordinating with local counsel around the world to review and draft documents. Being involved in such large scale transactions was one of the main reasons I wanted to work at Baker McKenzie. Having the opportunity to work on complex global deals has been a great start to my career.
At Baker McKenzie Belfast there are lots of different groups and social activities to get involved with. I am a member of the Wellbeing Committee and really enjoy being able to help organise different initiatives and events throughout the year. This is also a great way to get to know other people outside of the team.
